Social Impact Report 2024 – Beacon Family Services

Our 2024 Social Impact Report shows how the transformational outcomes of our work create an immediate and long-term difference to children, families and systems around them.

As we reflect on our sixth year, what stands out isn’t change; it’s the growing evidence that what we do truly transforms lives. Beacon Family Services has grown even more rooted in our mission to champion play as a powerful therapeutic tool to support children’s relationships so they can enjoy good mental health.

Addressing a children’s mental health crisis

The Children’s Commissioner recently revealed that nearly one million children – 8% of all UK children – were referred to mental health services. More than a third of those referrals were closed before help was given, and another third waited over 35 days. Some 40,000 waited more than two years.

The cost of delay is staggering emotionally, socially, and financially. But at Beacon Family Services, we see this not only as a crisis, but as a call to work with our generous funders to innovate.

Delivering transformational outcomes

Through our responsive, play-based therapeutic support, we provide families with early, relationship-focused help that’s often missing in the current overstretched and under resourced system.

  • This year, our work has delivered transformational outcomes with children reporting an 81% increase in positive emotions and outlook.
  • We invested 79p of every £1 directly into supporting families.
  • By reaching over 2000 children, we’ve helped save the NHS an estimated £4.1 million.

This is proof that targeted, relationship-based support changes lives and delivers exceptional value for society.

At the heart of our work is a belief that every child is unique; an individual, part of a family, and a member of a wider community. We’re proud to work in partnership with families and professionals to offer support that’s flexible, accessible, and deeply rooted in empathy and evidence.

In this report, you’ll read about how our approach is helping to transform lives and how, together with our funders and partners, we’re building a more responsive mental health system for children and families.

Real impact in a challenging landscape

This report is designed to show the short and long-term difference our work makes to children, families, and the systems around them. Because we believe deeply that investing now in early, accessible support prevents far greater societal costs down the line.

The funding landscape is increasingly challenging, and yet the need for what we offer has never been more urgent. We know our play-based, relationship-focused approach delivers real impact.

Our goal remains clear, and we are glad that you have joined us on our journey to make a tangible difference.
